Johnson, who prepped at Winnfield Senior High School under Coach Larry Dauterive, was not picked in the National Football League Draft two weeks ago, but inked as a free agent with the Joe Ferguson led Bills the following afternoon. Johnson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Johnson of Winnfield, finished his brilliant career at Northeast University in Monroe ranked in more categories than all but one great NLU performer. The sensational running back, who was featured in the 1979 NCAA preview film, was ranked in career rushing, all purpose running, kick-off returns, scoring, total offense, and pass receiving. Johnson ended his tenure at NLU as a four year letterman. In his final season, he was the teams leading rusher for the second consecutive year. He had 763 yards and six touchdowns on 151 carries. He also had 28 pass receptions for 163 yards and 14 kickoff returns for 281 yards. At the conclusion of his Northeast athletic competition, Johnson rushed for 2,330 yards. He was in the top ten category of receiving, scoring, kick-off returns and total offense. Johnson was ranked seventh in receiving with 55 catches for 388 yards and one touchdown. He was third in scoring with 20 touchdowns for 120 points and number two in kick-off returns with 50 returns for 1,117 yards and a touchdown. In the final category, total offense, Johnson ranked fifth with 2,330 yards.
