Former L. S. U. Star, And Head Mentor at Baton Rouge, Is Associate At Manual High Hefley "Hank" Stovall, who has been head coach at Baton Rouge High School since 1927, handling football, basketball, and boxing and served as a member of the faculty, has accepted a position on the athletic staff of Manual High School at Louisville, Ky. Coach Stovall will join Manual High School as backfield coach of the football squad, and will coach basketball along with serving as a supervisor of physical education. Coach and Mrs. Stovall resigned positions as members of the Baton Rouge High School faculty and are leaving Baton Rouge late in August. He will assume his duties as backfield coach September 1. Manual High School is one of three outstanding high schools in Louisville. It is a school for boys only and has an enrollment of over 1300. Chosen From Large Field The former Baton Rouge high school mentor was chosen from a large field of applicants, including outstanding coaches from Michigan and New Jersey, and should be headed for a successful future as a member of the Manual athletic staff that must keep pace with other teams in that section of the country where competition is so fast. Stovall went to Baton Rouge from Dodson, La., and attended Louisiana State University from 1923 through 1928, leaving behind a brilliant athletic career behind him along with receiving the honor of "Most Valuable in 1928." He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Logan J. Stovall of Dodson. He began his career as football and basketball coach at Baton Rouge High School and introduced boxing as a major sport in the Government Street school. The former Bulldog coach leaves a fine coaching record behind him, having turned out outstanding teams in the state, playing in three district playoffs and one Southern division playoff. He has produced many all-star players and other athletes who became prominent in collegiate circles. In leaving Louisiana, Coach Stovall said, "I have really enjoyed it here and of course, there is a sadness to leaving Louisiana and all my friends, but I am happy for the opportunity to make good in one of the fastest football regions in the nation and the chance to specialize. I hope I can continue up the ladder in a very treacherous profession."
