All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 7, 1949 Winn Parish Enterprise Eleven Out For First Tennis Team At Winnfield High Winnfield High School's first organized tennis team, coached by Miss Elizabeth Melkild, began practice recently on courts adjoining the elementary school. The team practices Monday and Friday afternoons and on weekends when weather permits. Seven girls and four boys, all of whom have had little or no experience in tennis, compose the team. No regular matches have been scheduled. Miss Melkild plans to enter the district tennis tournament at Northwestern State College on May 13-14, where members of the team will compete in the following events: boys singles, girls singles, girls doubles, mixed doubles. Girls out for the tennis team are: Betty Sue Parker, Peggy Frazier, Patsy Allen, Marilyn Dark, Nelda Jenkins, Betty Jo Tomlinson, and Dorothy Tomlinson. Boys who are members of the team are: Dan Carr, Charles Tomlinson, Tony Hammonds, and Dick Boyett.
