All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: May 1, 1930 Winn Parish Enterprise Winnfield School Wins 5th Place In State Rally Winnfield High School won nine and one-half points in the state rally held in Baton Rouge last Friday and Saturday. They came in ahead of Shreveport, Bolton, Lake Charles and several other larger schools. Frank Cox won first place in the mile run making it in 4:47.2. Henry Brewer won first in javelin, 164.0 feet. Bill Kelly tied third place in pole vault 11 feet. The students and Professor Bankston were furnished a car to make the trip to Baton Rouge by Winn Motor Company. The school students and Mr. Bankston which to express their thanks to E. J. Byrnes for this courtesy, which made it possible for the school to be represented at Baton Rouge. The Winnfield school, although it has not won any rally this year, had made an excellent showing. Under conditions existing, it was known the length of the term, and more emphasis was given to class room work. Winnfield school formerly won her points at rallies in athletics and fine arts. This year Winnfield excelled in classroom work. At the rally in Natchitoches, Winnfield scored 19 points in class subjects, which is the highest record in her history in the subjects.
