Who's He? A New Running Sensation Winnfield has recently acquired another claim to fame and the Grambling College coach Eddie Robinson and his "Super Tigers" have acquired a new running star in Lewis "Bull" Wilson. Wilson, a 1969 graduate of Pinecrest, is a Physical Education major at Grambling. He is the sone of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wilson of Winnfield and is married to the former Caroline Wilson of Winnfield. In the November 19, 1971 issue of the Gramblingite, Grambling College newspaper, Wilson is cited in several news stories for his play in a game in Norfolk, Virginia. In a sports column "Tiger Tales" written by Carmon Colbert, the writer states, "Lewis rushed 10 times and was the game's top rusher with 125 yards. He was also the winner of the Anheuser-Busch Award." The award is a gold watch, according to his sister, Beatrice Martin of Winnfield. Another story which features Wilson appeared in the same issue. It is headed "Lewis Wilson! Who's He? A New Running Sensatino" written by Jethro Norwood. The story follows: When the gun sounded starting the game Saturday afternoon in Norfolk, Va., no one knew that a new Grambling College running sensation would be born. The first half went as expected with the Tigers running up an impressive score. but during the second half, Grambling released number 43 on what apeared to be a helpless, but capable Norfolk squad. With each man doing his thing, 43 waited patiently in the backfield for his chance. When he burst through for a sizable gain, the crowd just took it as another play, but again and again he ran over almost everyone and even scored a touchdown. Who is number 43? The crowd was wondering. Many knew it wasn't Richard Paul because Paul had been resting since the New York game, and if it was his spirit, then man, it could really run. It was Lewis Wilson, a freshman running back from Winnfield who was virtually unknown to the chanting throng of Grambling fans. When Wilson was asked how it felt to be able to run for 136 yards in one half, he remarked it was more than pleasure getting an early opportunity to show his ability to the coaches and fans, and he hopes the situation will again arise. At any rate when the gun sounded Grambling not only had rolled to a 55-0 victory, but they had acquired a new running star in Lewis Wilson.
