Coach Tommy Straughan stated that the team made lots of errors and he has a lot of problems to iron out, but on the whole the teamed preformed well. They gave up only touchdown on an intercepted pass and held Jena to short yardage the rest of the game. Woody Brazell scampered about 30 yards for the Bear touchdown in the second quarter of the game. This score with a safety gave the Bears an 8-6 halftime lead. The Bears trapped Jena behind the goal again in the third period for a safety and that ended the scoring for the night. Starting on offense for the Bears were Wayne Wood and Mike Spangler at ends, Steve Stroud and Marlin James at tackles, Larry Gibson and Jim Wright at guards, James Lowery at center, Gary Green at quarterback, Woody Brazzell and Ralph Roberts at halfbacks, Glenn Stewart at fullback. Charles Poisso and Ronald Howard are starters on the defensive unit of the Bears.
