This probably is the first time in Winnfield history that four members have been chosen for All-State honors. The selections were made by the Louisiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association Conference, composed of negro high schools of the State. Players named were: Willis Bowie, 17, halfback; Alton Johnson, 18, fullback; Haston Powell, 16, right guard; and Albert Peters, left end. Peters and Powell sparkplugged their team in a great defensive season. The Yellow Jackets scored 175 points to their opponents' total of 18, it was reported. Alton Johnson, star offensive man, scored 13 touchdowns this season, the report stated, and Bowie was at his best on punt returns, plus outstanding work of both the offense and defense.
