Roy Long, 43, cousin of the late Huey P. Long and foreman of a State highway maintenance crew at Winnfield, died Wednesday of a gunshot wound in the head, inflicted by his wife, Mrs. Alma Howell Long. Mrs. Long surrendered to Sheriff Bryant Sholars of Winn Parish and was transferred to the Caddo Parish jail here. Scholars said an affidavit signed by Floyd Long, brother of the slain man, was filed in his office and charged Mrs. Long with willful murder. Sheriff Sholars said the woman admitted she shot her husband and said she was sorry it happened. Sholars said Mrs. Long shot her husband through a door in the Longs’ home as Long tried to force his way into her bedroom. The shooting, the Sheriff said Mrs. Long told him, grew out of family difficulties and she fired because Long was angered and threatened to kill her.
