F. Walker, 68 year old negro of Eufala County, Oklahoma, is not convinced that a tale of $ 1,000,000 in gold bars found on his Winn Parish property was just somebody pulling his leg. Walker inherited 160 acres of land on the Jonesboro-Dodson highway from his father. Last year a yarn was circulated that a pipeline crew plowed up a huge amount of gold bars, valued at $ 10,000 on his land. As the rumor was repeated often, the figure became $ 30,000, and still later jumped to $1,000,000. Walker got wind of the big story and came down from Oklahoma to investigate. His colored friends knew nothing of the buried treasure, so he went to local officials, who were also unable to confirm the report. Clues to the missing gold began to fade away, and the more elusive they became, the more excited Walker became. He then consulted two Oklahoma lawyers, who advised him to secure copies of the story reported to have been published in the Enterprise. Copies of the story, the attorneys said, could be sent to the treasury department as partial evidence that his claim was real. Thus Walker showed up at the Enterprise some days ago and asked for a copy of the story. Enterprise files were checked and no such story could be found. Quite disappointed, Walker left, now completely convinced there's a deep, dark plot against him. Probably no one will ever succeed in making him believe that he has been the victim of a practical joke, a slightly sour joke. Has anyone seen that million dollars in gold bars? No doubt, the mystery will never be solved.
