With 13 other Winn Parish adults, he attended night classes during the past year to complete credits needed to qualify them for high school graduation, and when it came time to sign the diplomas, well, he just did his duty, he signed his own along with the rest. Willis says he was a little late getting around to graduating because of a family illness. When his father was hospitalized in 1930, young Willis dropped out of high school to work and help support the family. He attended part time in 1931-1932, but didn't have enough credits to get a diploma. Better late than never, says Willis, a Winnfield businessman for many years and now manager of the local New York Store. (Submitted by Greggory Ellis Davies, Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA.)
