Allen, 71 years of age, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. P. Martin, Wednesday morning at 2 o'clock, were held at the First Baptist Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Dr. B. C. Land, pastor, was in charge, assisted by the Rev. Ellis Smith and Rev. Alwin Stokes. Interment was in the Winnfield Cemetery. Mr. Allen had been in ill health for the past year and was in bed several months before he succumbed. A life long resident of this parish, he was born January 9, 1863, the son of Max and Elizabeth Allen, who lived in the Allen Community several miles east of town. In 1883 he was married to Miss Virginia Perry. She preceded him in death six years ago. Mr. Allen was a progressive farmer in his community. He moved with his family to Winnfield in 1898 where he followed the carpentry trade. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. W. P. Martin, Winnfield and Mrs. B. M. Sharkey, Crossett, Ark.; one son, W. W. Allen, Assessor of Winn Parish; also two brothers, C. C. Allen of Route 2, Winnfield and C. T. Allen of Pollock; one sister, Mrs. T. F. Wade of Verda.
