Allen Passes Away In New Orleans Pioneer Citizen of Winn Parish. Special to The Times Winnfield, LA. - Asa L. Allen, one of the pioneer citizens of Winn Parish, died at New Orleans last Thursday, where he had gone for treatment. Mr. Allen leaves a wife and several children, among them being O. K. Allen, assessor-elect, and Leonard Allen, principal of the Verda high school. His remains were interred at Union Church, five miles of Winnfield, on Saturday. From: June, 1916 unknown paper Honored Citizen Goes To His Reward Asa L. Allen, One of the Oldest Citizens of Winn Parish Dies in New Orleans In New Orleans, on Thursday at 4:45 p.m., Asa L. Allen, one of the oldest residents of Winn Parish, was called by death to his reward. A week ago he was taken to the city for treatment, but the disease, internal cancer, had progressed too far for recovery and yesterday the end came. Mr. Allen was born about three miles east of Winnfield and has lived on the same place all his life of 61 years. He was married in early (?)to the wife who survives him and together they have raised a family of six children, four boys and two girls, all of them living. They are: Oscar K., the assessor elect of this parish; Leonard, principal of the Verda high school; Chester and Ira, younger sons still on the home place. The daughters are Mrs. Mattie Broyles of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Fannie Abrams of Winn Parish. Mr. Allen had been a devout member of the Baptist Church for years and leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his death. The burial will be at Union Church cemetery, 5 miles east of Winnfield, at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Rev. C. B. Gates will preach the funeral sermon, after which Eastern Star Lodge Knight of Pythias, of which he was a member, will consign the body to its last resting place with the beautiful ritual of that order.
