All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 17, 1866 Winn Parish Enterprise-News American Mrs. Lula Allen, Prominent Winn Resident, Dies Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Allen, 79, who died Monday, March 14, 1966 in a local hospital after a long illness, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First Methodist Church with the Rev. George Ross and the Rev. Howard Staples officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of the Hixson Brothers Funeral Home. She was a lifelong resident of Winn Parish; the wife of Walter W. Allen, longtime Winn Parish tax assessor; and was deputy tax assessor during her husband's term in office. She was the daughter of the late H. J. Perkins and Mrs. Mattie Averett Perkins, prominent Winn Parish civic and political leaders. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Womens Society of Christian Service. Survivors include her husband; two sons, J. W. Allen and W. Warren Allen, both of Winnfield; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Breaux of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Alma Averett and Mrs. Eula Peavy, both of Winnfield; and five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Richard Heard, Jim Russell, C. C. Carter, Harwell Allen, Newton Forrest, Frank Shaw, Matt Milam, Jr., and Dudley Shell.
