Allen, 85, Dies; Burial At Allen Cemetery Ira Leon Allen, 85, of Route 2, Winnfield, died Thursday, July 9, 1970 in an Alexandria hospital after a long illness. Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of southeastern Winn Parish, eventually settling in Pleasant Hill community where he was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Allen celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September 1969. He was a farmer, who raised field crops and later truck garden produce, but he also worked in the timber and was one of the leading boosters for tree farming in Winn. At 65 he planted seedlings and lived to harvest plulpwood from his "pine orchard." Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Viola Allen of Winnfield; four sons, C. W. Allen of Winnie, Texas, Ardell Allen of Pineville, Melvin Allen of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Bobby Allen of Shreveport; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Yelverton of Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Nesa Smith of Winnfield and Mrs. Mary B. Cox of Plain Dealing; 15 grancdhildren, and 23 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Southern Funeral Home chapel at Winnfield with Revs. Harrison Cockerham and R. T. Bridges of Winnie, Texas officiating. Burial was in Allen Cemetery near Winnfield.
