Averett Held April 24 Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Perkins Averett, 82, of Winnfield, who died Sunday at her residence following a brief illness, were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 1973 at the First Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Calvin Phelps, officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Mrs. Averett was the widow of the late W. O. Averett, prominent building contractor. She was born in 1890 at Hill, near what is now known as Sikes. At the time of her death she was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church and was a charter member of her Sunday school class which was organized in 1899. She was also a teacher of the Ladies' Bible Class for 50 years until her retirement in 1966. Survivors include one son, Rev. W. M. (Merle) Averett, Lexington, Kentucky; a daughter, Mrs. R. P. Goodner, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Mrs. Eula Peavy, Winnfield; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were W. L. Sowers, Arnett Garriss, James Watts, Tim Gaar, S. L. Garrett, and Chris Allen.
