Allen Succumbs Here Tuesday Night Lifelong Resident of Winn Is Buried At Pleasant Hill Mrs. Mary L. (Mercer) Allen, 66 years of age, died at a local clinic Tuesday at 8 p.m. following an operation. She had been in failing health for a number of years. A lifelong resident of Winn Parish, she was born and reared in the Pleasant Hill and Union communities of Ward Two, and lived her entire life in those communities. For 38 years Mrs. Allen had been a member of the Baptist Church, her membership being first at Pleasant Hill and later at Winnfield. She was the widow of the late Prindo "Dutch" Allen, who died in 1918. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at the Pleasant Hill Church with Rev. H. H. McBride, pastor of the Winnfield Baptist Church in charge. Rev. Alwin Stokes, Presbyterian pastor, assisted. Interment was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Albert Smith, Walter Allen, Hugh Mercer, Charlie Jordan, O. K. Allen, and Harwell Allen. Mrs. Allen is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Luther Busby, of Sikes; and four sons, D. C. Allen, Winnfield; Luther Allen, Lecompte; Ernest Allen, Many; and Julius Allen, Baton Rouge. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Charlie Jordan of Pleasant Hill; Mrs. Bill Crawford of East Point; Mrs. Martha Frantom, Pleasant Hill; and one brother, Millard Mercer, Alexandria.
