All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: June 22, 1967 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Willma Allen, 75, Succumbs ; Rites At Pleasant Hill Columbus Willma Allen was born June 14, 1892 and passed away June 15, 1967, in what is now known as the Pleasant Hill Community in Winn Parish. He was the son of the late Christopher Columbus Allen and Clarissa Clementine Boyett. He was the grandson of early settlers of this community, Max Allen and Elizabeth Caves. He was a Woodman of the World, retired forester and a faithful servant to preserving timberland in Winn Parish. After the passing of his wife, Caroline Long, he took up writing poetry to fill his lonely hours. Many of his poems have been published and a book, "Precious Gems From Faded Memories". The book has been approved by the college libraries in the state as the top folklore poetry of Louisiana. It records the life lived in early days of Winn Parish. Funeral services were held Friday at 3:30 p.m. in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. J. O. Payne and Rev. Alson Jeter officiating. Burial was in the Allen Cemetery on the Tullos Highway under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. He is survived by five children, Nell Ruth Allen of New Orleans, La., Clinton, Gilbert, and Charles Kay Allen and Monita Allen Desselle of Baton Rouge, La., six grandchildren, Kendal, Angel, Randy, Mark, Eileen Allen of Baton Rouge, and Carolyn Allen Hebert of Iota, La., and two great grandsons, David Lynn and Darial Lee Hebert of Iota, two sisters, Nesa Smith of Winnfield, Mary Bell Cox, Ida, La. and Ira Allen of Winnfield, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Tuley Wells, Rayford Roark, Dewey V. Allen, Max Allen, C. W. Allen, Floyd Smith, Jr., Alfred Gilmore, and Wayne Pray.
