All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 28, 1966 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Lon Anderson, 80, Retired Barber, Buried In Texas Funeral services for Lon Anderson, 80, of Winnfield, sere held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in O'Quinn Baptist Church in Clawson, Texas, near Lufkin. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Edmonds Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Anderson died Sunday night, April 24, 1966 in a Winnfield hospital after a long illness. Anderson was a native of Andgelina County, and a member of a prominent East Texas family. He was a colorful figure at the turn of the century in East Texas. While Anderson was a storekeeper for the Texas penal system, the legislature authorized the removal of the body of Stephen F. Austin from its burial place at Perry's Landing on the Brazos, the site of Freeport, Texas. Anderson helped exhume the body and transferred it to Austin where the monument was built. He lived in Winn Parish for 40 years and was a member of the Winn Parish Police Jury for some time. His late brother served as state senator. He was a retired barber and was widely known for his jovial disposition. Survivors are his wife, Sarah; two sons, Carmon Anderson of Shreveport and Allen Anderson of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Shepherd of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Betts of Lufkin and Mrs. Mina Mooney of Houston, Texas; three half sisters and one half brother, all of Lufkin; four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
