"Uncle Gus" as he was known for many years, was a native of Sweden, having come to the United States about forty years ago. Information about his life indicates that when he first came to this country he was engaged in the grading contract business, doing work on the road bed of the L. & A. Railway Co. when that road was constructing the first line through this section. He later worked at odd jobs and about five years ago became night watchman at the highway barns located here. He had his cabin near the barns and for his pastime and pleasure raised chickens and had his own vegetable garden. He was a thrifty person and always managed to keep sufficient funds that he could have what he wanted. He counted a number of men in Winnfield his staunch friends and these men have proved themselves to be friends of his for at his death they gave him every attention. He had no relatives that are known. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at the First Presbyterian Church conducted by Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor, and interment was made in the Winnfield Cemetery under the direction of Walsh Funeral Home, local funeral directors.
