All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: March 10, 12, 19 Winn Parish Enterprise and Winnfield News American No. 1 (3-10-53) Local Man Succumbs In New Mexico Alva Anyan, about 40 years of age, of Farmington, New Mexico, expired in a hospital in Farmington Monday at 9:30 p.m. according to a message received from his wife by relatives last night. Alva, affectionately known as Red by his friends, was employed in oil field work in Farmington and took sick while at work a week ago. He was rushed to the hospital where an operation was necessary due to a serious stomach ailment. He failed to respond to treatment following the operation. Mrs. Anyan was at their home here where the children are in school, when her husband became ill and left immediately for New Mexico when notified of his serious illness. Jimmy Anyan, member of the Winnfield football team, is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Anyan and was preparing to leave with his two brothers, Donell and Bobby, to be with their father when the message of his death came. Mrs. Anyan stated that she would arrive in Winnfield tomorrow night, Wednesday, with the remains of her husband. Funeral arrangements are depending upon the decision of Mrs. Anyan when she arrives. Mr. Anyan's parents, the elder Mr. and Mrs. Anyan, are residents of Winnfield. No. 2 (3-12-53) Local Citizen Succumbs In New Mexico Mon. Funeral services for Alva Anyan, local citizen, who died in Farmington, New Mexico, Monday, were scheduled to be held here Friday or Saturday depending upon the arrival of the remains at his home near East Winnfield. No. 3 (3-19-53) Last Rites For Alvie Anyan Held Saturday Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Assembly of God Church in Gorhamtown for Alvie Andrew Anyan. Rev. A. T. Valentine and Mrs. E. T. Gunter were officiating ministers. Interment was in the Gorhamtown Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Anyan died in the San Juan Hospital in Farmington, New Mexico, on March 9. He was born in Eros, La., on April 18, 1923, being 39 years, 10 months, and 21 days old at the time of his death. He had been a resident of Winnfield for most of his life and his home was here. He was employed by the Great Western Oil Com., and had gone to New Mexico on a temporary assignment, where he became ill. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Esther Pearl Anyan, three sons, Jimmy Ray, Alvie Donnell, and Bobby, all of Winnfield; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James O. Anyan; one brother, Orlan W. Anyan of the Merchant Marines, and one sister, Mrs. S. Simpson, of Shreveport. Pallbearers were Buster Goins, Charlie Corley, Hiram Wright, J. R. Madden, Charlie Thornton, and E. N. Cotton.
