For J. M. Austin Funeral services for J. M. Austin, 84, were held Saturday, August 10, at 10 a.m. in the New Hope Methodist Church with burial in the New Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Grafton Shaw officiated at the service and was assisted by Rev. Eugene Langford and Rev. Virgil Taylor. Mr. Austin succumbed on August 9. A native of Winn Parish and the Dodson area, Mr. Austin was a retired farmer and logger. He was a member of the New Hope Church. Pallbearers were Dale Austin, Eugene Austin, Al Walker, Lamar Berry, Horaace Austin, and Billy Ray Berry. Mr. Austin is survived by six sons, W. J., John, Jessie and Evan, all of Winnfield, Lonnie Springhill and J. B. of Galveston; seven daughters, Mrs. Maggie Walker, Mrs. Clyde Berry, Mrs. W. W. Shivers, and Mrs. Randall McCain, of Winnfield; Mrs. Edwin Gaar of Dodson, Mrs. Wilbur Donaldson of Jonesboro; Mrs. Dick Delany of Springhill. He also leaves six brothers, Sam of Eros, Matt of Oak Grove, Jeff of Goodpine, Gus of Jena, Doc of New Mexico, and Robert of Monroe; and six sisters, Mrs. Matt Gibson of Monroe, Mrs. Nan Walker of Rayville, Mrs. Lela Rushing of Galveston, Mrs. Minnie Lanford and Mrs. Bertie Wallace of Lake Charles, and Mrs. Nita Gross of Temple, Texas. Mr. Austin also leaves 47 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren.
