All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: October 24, 1940 Winn Parish Enterprise William Watson Austin Funeral Is Held Tuesday Dies Monday, October 21 In Winnfield From Heart Ailment Interment for Mr. William Watson Austin, who was born in Carrollton, Georgia, February 23, 1862, was held in the Winnfield Cemetery Tuesday, October 22nd, with the Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Mr. Austin died Monday, October 21st as a result of a heart ailment, from which he had been suffering for the past four years. As an employee of the Louisiana and Arkansas Railsay Company Mr. Austin and his wife, the late Mrs. Beulah Austin, moved to Hope, Arkansas from Atlanta, Ga., in 1907. In 1913 he moved his family to Louisiana where he became an employee of the Tremont and Gulf Railway Company in Winnfield. He was employed by the Tremont and Gulf until four years ago when he was stricken with a paralytic stroke and was retired by the company. Mr. Austin was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Order of Railway Conductor Association, was always proud to mention that United States Congressman Adams, father of the eight hour a day law, studied law under his father, the late Judge George W. Austin of Carrollton, Georgia. Surviving Mr. Austin are two daughters, Mrs. C. J. Hastings and Mrs. O. Trahan, both of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. A. H. Gray, Minden, Louisiana; Mrs. Emmet Walsh, Atlanta, Ga.; and Mrs. S. B. Cole, Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Helen Francis Hastings and Virginia Hastings, of Winnfield.
