All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: September 10, 1953 Winn Parish Enterprise Funeral Is Held Wednesday For Suicide Victim Funeral services for Bamma Nell Autrey, 15 year old suicide victim, were held at the Winnfield Pentecostal Church on King Street here, Wednesday at 2 p.m. The girl, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Autrey of Dodson, Route 1, took her life with a bullet from a .22 caliber rifle Tuesday morning, while her parents were visiting Winnfield. A coroner's inquest was held with the suicide report being made. It was reported she shot herself between the eyes with the rifle around 8 a.m. and lay on a divan at her home for about three hours before her body was discovered by Vicki Nugent, a nephew, at about 11:30. The sheriff's department reported that a note was found addressed to the girl's parents, telling them of her plans to commit suicide. The reason for her act was not known, the Sheriff said. The contents of the note were not revealed. It was reported that neighbors in the vicinity of the Autrey home heard a shot at about the time the suicide was placed, but did not investigate. Burial was in Georgetown Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home, following the funeral here, with Rev. Young officiating. The girl is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Autrey; four sisters, Mrs. Muriel Price of New Orleans, Mrs. Edna Cupples of Clute, Texas, Mrs. Tine Laa Bamburg, Arcadia, Calif., and Mrs. Irene Nugent of Winnfield.
