All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: April 26, 1973 Winn Parish Enterprise News-American Winn Parish Man Drowns At Nantachie Clarence Avant, 79, of Atlanta, drowned shortly afternoon Wednesday, April 19, 1972, while fishing in Nantachie Lake near Montgomery. His body was recovered before the Colfax Sheriff's Department arrived on the scene at Harper's Landing at 2:56 p.m. Avant was reportedly fishing alone and it is not known how the accident occurred. He was a veteran of World War I and a native of Arkansas. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louis Avant of Atlanta; three sons, J. C. Avant and James M. Avant, both of Shreveport and Troy Lynn Avant of Joyce; five daughters, Mrs. Lillie Thomas of Arlington, Tex., Mrs. Cecil Covington and Mrs. Lewis Davis, both of Fort Worth, Tex., Mrs. Velma Gregory of San Amito, Calif., and Mrs. Rupert Lebarron of Shreveport; two brothers, Otis Avant and J. D. Avant, both of Minden; five sisters, Mrs. Abbie Brady of Gibson, Mrs. Helen Haynes of Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. Johnnie B. Shows of Pineville, Mrs. Ivy Lee Lutes of San Benito, Tex., and Mrs. Lottie Owens of Minden; 16 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday in Iatt Baptist Church with Rev. Deloy Shows and Rev. Gerald Page officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
