Allen Funeral services for Dewey Clifton Allen, Jr., 40, of Winnfield, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, March 15, 1971, at the First Baptist Church. Revs. Lucian Conway and J. C. Skinner officiated at the services. Judge Harwell Allen delivered the eulogy during the service. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Winnfield. Pallbearers were Larry Rogers, Morris Crawford, James Hall Emerson, Tracy Lee Harrel, Sherman Roberts, C. R. Long, Harold Hickey, and Luther Allen Busby. Allen, son of Mrs. Mary Allen Jenkins and the late D. C. Allen, Sr., both former Winnfield mayors, died Saturday night, March 13, at 7:10 in a head-on collision on the Old Calvin Road near Winnfield. Emanuel Rainwater of Rt. 3, Winnfield was charged with negligent homicide, reckless operation of a vehicle, and driving without a driver's license. According to officers Rainwater was driving west in a 1960 Oldsmobile when he met Allen's 1969 Volkswagen in Allen's lane of traffic. Rainwater was injured slightly and was treated and released at Winnfield General Hospital along with his passenger, 18 month old Sheldon Rainwater. Allen was alone in his car. He was the fourth traffic facility this year in Winn Parish. Rainwater has been jailed in lieu of bond, according to the Winn Parish Sheriff's Office. Allen, a graduate of Winnfield High School, attended Louisiana College and Northwestern State, and served four years in the Navy. While in the Navy, he gained recognition as the AAU junior welter weight boxing champion of the South Pacific. An engineer with the Louisiana Department of Highways for 15 years, he was a member of the Highway Engineers' Society, the V. F. W., and the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elsie DeWolf Allen of Winnfield; one son, Jonathan Allen, one daughter, Barbara Allen; his mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Jenkins, all of Winnfield; one brother, Alton Allen of Honolulu, Hawaii; and one sister, Mrs. Frankie Dickerson of Sikeston, Mo.
