N. T. Avant, Retired School Bus Driver, Is Buried July 27

Funeral services for Nathan T. Avant, 69, were held at the Mars Hill Baptist
Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 27, with the Rev. Ray Teal officiating. 
Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of
Winnfield.

Mr. Avant died at 1:45 p.m. July 25 following a lengthy illness.  He was a
native of Winn Parish and a veteran of World War I and a member of the board
of deacons at Atlanta Baptist Church.  Mr. Avant was a retired school bus
driver.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Nathan T. Avant, Jr., of Winnfield;
three brothers, Odis Avant, Minden, Jeff Avant, Winnfield, and Clarence Avant
of Verda; five sisters, Mrs. E. L. Brady, Taylor, Mrs. Calvin Owens, Minden,
Mrs. helen Haynes, Little Rock, Ark., Mrs. J. W. Lutes, San Benita, Tex., and
Mrs. H. B. Shows, Pineville; and 10 grandchildren.
