Samuel Ates, 79, Dies; Rites Held Sunday At Iatt

Samuel Ates, 79, of Montgomery, died Saturday, February 3, 1973 in an
Alexandria hospital.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Iatt Baptist Church with
the Rev. Walter Barnard officiating.  Burial was in Iatt Cemetery under
direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Survivors include eight sons, Rev. David L. Ates of Texarkana, Ark., Willard
M. Ates of Houston, Tex., Francis N. Ates of Pollock, Sam Ates of Winnfield,
Gordon Ates of Houston, Tex., Warren Ates of San Diego, Calif., Ray Ates and
the Rev. Luke Ates, both of Houston, Tex.,; three daughters, Mrs. Jack Jones
of Pineville, Mrs. Franklin Ponder of Clover Port, Ky., Mrs. Lougenia Shelton
of Houston, Tex.,; a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
