O. Baker, Local Resident, Dies On Monday Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 29, for Mrs. Julia Myrtle Baker, mother of Winnfield City Councilman Robert E. Baker. She was the widow of the late E. O. Baker, former Winnfield deputy marahal and lumberman. Mrs. Baker died in a hospital here Monday at 9 a.m. She had been at home recuperating from surgery and was rushed to the hospital after a heart attack at 5 a.m. Monday. Born Oct. 3 at Zion in Winn Parish, Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Isaac E. Wise and Mrs. Eliza Cook Wise, pioneer Winnfield family. The late Mrs. Emma Melton Wise was her stepmother. In addition to her son, she is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Sallye Newcomb and Mrs. Fanny Berry, both of Lake Providence, Mrs. Lela McBroom, Silsbee, Texas, and Mrs. Beulah Whitehead, Longview, Texas, and two grandchildren. The services were conducted in the First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. W. R. Gage and Rev. C. C. Martin officiating. Burial was in the Melton Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home. Richard Heard, G. W. Jones, Dean Thornton, Jack Henderson, Hardy Smith, Jr., Thomas Whitehead, H. E. Powell, Jr., and Edward McBroom served as pallbearers.
