Bailey Succumbs In Monroe Hospital Dr. B. L. Bailey, born on a small farm some six miles south of Winnfield in 1872, died in a Monroe hospital August 6, 1952, of an acute heart attack. He had been in ill health for a number of years, having undergone a major operation some three years ago in a New Orleans hospital. He never fully recovered. Dr. Bailey grew up on a small farm, attending such schools as the country afforded. He graduated from the Memphis Medical College in 1897 and shortly thereafter married a step-daughter of J. W. Hanchey. He practiced his profession in Winnfield for a short time, moving to Atlanta, and from there to Effie, Avoyelles Parish. He resided there several years. His next location was at Epps, West Carroll Parish. From there he moved to Star City, Ark., where he made his home until the time of his death. To the union were born five children, three boys and two girls. The boys and one of the daughters reside in Monroe and vicinity, one daughter living in Star City, Ark. His wife preceded him some four years ago in death. Dr. Bailey leaves two brothers, B. W. Bailey of Winnfield and B. Bailey of St. Maurice; and one sister, Mrs. Tom Long, Winnfield.
