The deputy said the one vehicle accident occurred on a road in front of LaSalle Parish High School and that a passenger in the auto, Kevin "Buster" Taylor, 17, also of Olla, escaped serious injury. According to the deputy, Barton lost control of the car in a curve, went off the road and struck a culvert which threw the car off the ground into a pine tree. He said Taylor was thrown from the auto when it first left the road. Taylor was taken to the Hardtner Medical Center at Urania and released later Sunday. A spokesman at the hospital said he was kept for observation purposes. The sheriff's deputy said the Barton auto landed upside down pinning the youth underneath. Funeral services for the Barton youth were held at 2 p.m. Monday in Standard Baptist Church with the Revs. Dale Windham, James Simons, and Aubrey Veuleman officiating. Burial was in Harris Chapel Cemetery near Olla under direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cliffton Barton, one brother, Jerry Barton; two sisters, Mrs. Skyla Elliott and Mrs. Lennie Hatten, paternal grandmother, Mrs. Oscar Barton, all of Olla, and one half-brother, Clifton Barton, Jr. of Baton Rouge.
