News-Star) Mrs. Barr Dies At Oak Ridge After Illness Was Well Known in Monroe. Many to Attend Funeral. Many local friends of Rev. and Mrs. D. C. Barr, of Oak Ridge, were greatly shocked to hear of the death, at 7 o'clock last night, at home in that city, of Mrs. Barr. The deceased had been in ill health for some time, but the end came very suddenly. Rev. Barr is pastor of the Methodist Church of Oak Ridge, and is well known throughout this part of the state, having preached in many towns of Louisiana and in which Mrs. Barr played a large part in her helpful aid ever rendered her husband in his work. The funeral was held this afternoon at the Oak Ridge Methodist Church at 3:00 o'clock and many people from Monroe were in attendance. Preachers from several nearby towns took part in the services. Surviving Mrs. Barr are her husband and the following children: Mrs. Floyd Brantley of Tallulah; Mrs. Morgan Abel of Rochelle; Chas. Barr of Monroe; Mrs. W. O. Files of Oak Ridge; J. S. Barr of Oak Ridge; Mrs. A. M. Boughton of Oak Ridge; Mrs. T. W. Corry of Monroe; and Mrs. J. M. Brothers, also of Monroe. W. B. Corry of this city is one of the grandsons. Many handsome floral offerings were this morning sent overland to Oak Ridge from this city, expressive of the high esteem for the deceased among local friends. Burial will be in the family lot in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mrs. Barr was for four years a resident of Monroe when her husband was settled as pastor of the First Methodist Church, this city. During the pastorate of Rev. Barr, the local church experienced much material and spiritual growth and Mrs. Barr made an unusually large crowd of friends in Monroe at that time. Immediately upon receipt of the news of the death of Mrs. Barr, Rev. J. M. Freeman, the present pastor of the church, left for Oak Ridge, where he will assist in officiating at the funeral services this afternoon. Mrs. Barr was 72 years of age. Had she survived until next October Mr. Barr and she were to have celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage.
