Barnes, Route 1,Dodson, drowned Thursday, August 7, in Saline Lake, during an outing. According to Winn Parish Sheriff Sanford Jordan, the boy, his identical twin brother Dale, and Randy Hudson, all of Dodson, were in a boat, having just pushed from the side of the lake. Site of the mishap was Allen Dam, which separates Winn and Natchitoches Parishes and time of the drowning was 12:25 p.m. The water was about 20 feet deep, the sheriff said, and Gale got out of the boat, clinging to the side of the boat. He lost his grip and went down without resurfacing. The boy had a life jacket on, but it was not fastened and apparently slipped off, officials said. The body was recovered on the Natchitoches Parish side of the dam by Winn Parish sheriff's deputies, city, and state police, at 3:15 p.m. He is survived by his parents, three brothers, Robert L. Barnes of Houston, Larry Barnes, and his twin, Dale Barnes, all of Dodson; three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Whetstone, Zachary, La., Mrs. Jennifer Vines, Jonesboro, and Miss Phyllis Barnes of Dodson. Gale was a student at Dodson High School and was a member of the Dodson Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9 at the Dodson Baptist Church, Rev. E. B. Barnes and Rev. E. B. Barton, officiating. Interment was in Siloam Cemetery, Gansville, under the direction of Southern Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Billy King, George Terrell, Tommy Spillers, Clayton Norred, Randy Hudson, Richard Rudd, Richard Parker, and Roger Flurry.
