Barnes Funeral services for Mrs. Joy Kornegay Barnes, 38, former Dodson resident, who died at a local clinic Friday afternoon, September 26, after an illness of almost two years, were held at Quinlan, Texas, at 2 p.m. Sunday, September 28. The Rev. Stradling, Quinlan Methodist minister, officiated. Burial was in the Quinlan Cemetery. Mrs. Barnes was born at Dodson March 24, 1909 and was a graduate of Dodson High School and Meadows-Draughn Business College, Shreveport. For the past several years she and her husband hd engaged in a grocery business in Quinlan, Texas. Mrs. Barnes was a member of the Dodson Baptist Church. A short service was conducted at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield Saturday morning, September 27, with Rev. Alwin Stokes officiating. Final rites were held at the Texas community which had been her home for several years. Surviving are her husband, George Barnes of Quinlan, Texas; her father, W. W. Kornegay of Dodson; two sisters, Mrs. J. L. Mathews of Dodson and Mrs. W. L. Sowers of Winnfield; two brothers, Henry Kornegay of Dodson and Lester Kornegay of Dothan, Ala. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
