The accident was unavoidable and occurred when her older brother, between 12 and 15 years of age, and a friend of his went to gather fuel for the night. According to reports they decided to see which one could cut down a tree in the shortest time. They did not notice the liggle girl as they were working and one of the trees fell on the child. She was rushed to Winnfield and then to Alexandria where she died six hours later. Funeral services were conducted at the Sikes Baptist Church Wednesday afternoon with the pastor, the Rev. Lee in charge. Interment was in the Sikes Cemetery. The child's father is employed as foreman in the Sikes CCC camp, near which the family resides.
