Barr A Former J. P. Of Ward Six Is Dead The funeral services of Samuel M. Barr, very prominently known in Winn Parish, LaSalle, Bossier, and other parishes, were held in Jena, Wednesday, February 10th. Mr. Barr was born in Alabama, March 9, 1849, and moved with his father, John Barr, and settled near Atlanta, La., in 1861. For a number of years he was justice of the peace in Ward Six of Winn Parish and well known in school, church, and other community activities. In 1900, he moved to Jena and at the time of his death on February 9, was residing at Plain Dealing, La. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Francis Yancy Barr, one brother, a Superannuate Minister of Oak Grove, Rev. Dan C. Barr, and one sister, Mrs. C. D. Hunt, of Plain Dealing. The very impressive service was conducted by Rev. A. R. Nease, pastor of the Methodist Church, Plain Dealing. He was assisted by Rev. J. F. Dring, pastor, Methodist Church, Haughton, La., Rev. A. S. Lutz, Minden, La., and Rev. A. S. J. Neal, pastor Methodist Church in Jena. The Masons had charge of the services at the grave. Other ministers attending were Rev. R. T. Ware, Winnfield, Rev. E. C. Dufrense, Springhill, and Rev. John Rosumssen of Trout and Goodpine. Those attending from Winnfield were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tannehill, Mr. P. K. Abel, and the Rev. R. T. Ware.
