W. Bartley Succumbs Aug. 25 In Local Hospital Mrs. R. W. Bartley, 89, of Jordan Hill community, died in a Winnfield hospital Saturday, August 25, after a long illness. She was the former Miss Marjorie Smith, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Smith, pioneer residents of that community, and she spent her entire life in that area. Funeral services were held at the Big Creek Baptist Church, of which she was a member, at 2 p.m. Monday, August 27. Officiating were the Rev. C. E. Arrington, Rev. Glen Griffin, and Rev. Willie Broadway. Burial was in the Old Corinth Cemetery. The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: Harvey and Owen Jordan, Dennis and Walter Bartley, Lavell Bartley, Hubert and Herbert Bartley, and Thomas Antley. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Florence Williams, Mrs. Lawrence Jordan, and Mrs. Bill Antley, all of Winnfield; five sons, John, Walter, and Clifford Bartley, all of Winnfield, Charlie Bartley of Urania, and Wade Bartley of Joyce; two brothers, Jim Smith and Charlie Smith, both of Winnfield; one sister, Mrs. Missouri Dawson of Monroe; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.
