W. Bartley, 90, Succumbs At Home In Jordan Hill One of Winn Parish's oldest residents, R. W. Bartley, 90 years and four days of age, died at his home in the Jordan Hill community Saturday night, July 14. He had been ill for some time, suffering from cancer. He was a retired farmer and stock raiser. Born in Mobile, Ala., July 10, 1866, he had been a resident of Winn Parish since 1896. On Jan. 23, 1896 he was married to Miss Margria Smith of Jordan Hill. Active in civic and religious life in his community, he was a member of the Big Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. For 40 years he was a member of the Masonic Order, Georgetown Masonic Lodge No. 298, F. & A. M., and for 20 years he served Ward 9 as a justice of the peace. He was widely known for his jovial disposition. Last rites were conducted at the Old Corinth Cemetery tabernacle with the Rev. E. B. Barton, Rev. Louis B. Williams, and Rev. Willie Broadway officiating. Burial was in the Old Corinth Cemetery. Grandsons of the deceased acted as pallbearers. They were: Owen and Harvey Jordan, Dennis and Walter Bartley, Hubert and Herbert Bartley. Mr. Bartley is survived by his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Jordan and Mrs. Bill Antley of Jordan Hill, Mrs. Horace Williams of Urania; six sons, Wade and John of Pleasant Hill, Julius of Jonesboro, Charlie of Urania, Walter and Clifford of Jordan Hill, 23 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
