Herbert W. Bass Dies; Buried Here Thursday, Sept. 1

Herbert W. Bass, retired maintenance superintendent for the State Spastic
School in Alexandria and past city marshal of Winnfield for 16 years, died at
12:45 a.m. Wednesday at his Alexandria residence.  He was 53.

Bass was past chairman of the Veterans Affairs Commission of Louisiana and was
past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Winnfield.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. A. S. Bass of Alexandria; two brothers,
Herman Bass of Jonesboro and James F. Bass of Coushatta; and two sisters, Mrs.
Wade Davis and Mrs. Lee Hudson, both of Alexandria.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday from the Winnfield Methodist
Church, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home.  Interment was in the
Winnfield Cemetery.
