All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 4, 1945 Winn Parish Enterprise Clayton Bates, War I Veteran, Succumbed Dec. 29 Funeral services for Clayton Bates, World War One Veteran, who died at a Winnfield clinic, December 38, 1944, were held at Bethlehem Church Friday, December 29, at 3 o'clock. Rev. W. D. McDaniel had charge of the services. Mr. Bates, a native of the Bethlehem Community, had been a patient at the Veterans' hospital, Alexandria, La., and Chicago, Ill., for the past two or three years. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Evie Carter Bates; one son, G. C. Bates, Jr., who is surviving in the U. S. Navy in Florida; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Bates, Route 4, Winnfield; Sgt. Clarence Bates and Henry Bates, serving in the Army somewhere overseas; four sisters, Mrs. Marshall Canerday, Mrs. Curtis Key, and Mrs. Murray Riffe of Route 4, Winnfield, and a sister who resides in Castor.
