C. Beard Dies Following Short Illness Mar. 16 Carl C. Beard, 52, died in a Winnfield hospital March 16, following a short illness. He was a native of Vicksburg, Miss., and had spent most of his life in Jonesville, La., but had been residing in Winnfield for the past two years. He was a veteran of World War II and was an oil field worker. Last rites were conducted at 3:30 p.m. March 17 at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. H. Staples officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Acting as pallbearers were Robert Cherry, Jr., Swingly Cross, Leslie Cross, Dayton Young, Leo Young, and Brother W. C. Beard. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ellen Graham Beard, his mother, Mrs. Tina Beard, and a sister, Mrs. Katherine Cherry, all of Winnfield; two brothers, Clyde Beard of Jonesville and Mike Beard of Eagle Lake, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.
