All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** From: January 30, 1941 Winn Parish Enterprise Julian Bernstein Succumbs After Long Illness Last Rites Conducted In Monroe Monday Afternoon After an illness of several years, Julian Bernstein, 73, died at the family residence here Sunday night. The remains were carried to Monroe Monday where funeral services were held in the Mulhearn Funeral Home at 3 p.m. with Rabbi F. K. Hirsch, of Temple B'Nai Israel, officiating. Interment was in the Monroe Jewish Cemetery. Mr. Bernstein had been ill for a number of years and for the past few days had been in a critical condition. He was born in Montgomery, La., and was the son of the late Philip and Rosalie Bernstein. He was educated in the public schools of New Orleans and was later associated in the mercantile business with his uncle, Morris Bernstein, who operated the first store in Winnfield. After his uncle retired from business in 1900, Mr. Bernstein became engaged in the conducting of a general real estate business in Winnfield which he managed until his health failed several years ago. He is survived by one brother, Rudolph Bernstein of Monroe, and one sister, Miss Nettie Bernstein, of Winnfield, besides a number of nephews and nieces. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Arnold Bernstein, mayor of Monroe for many years, and Henry Bernstein, a prominent attorney in Monroe, and a sister, Mrs. Kaliski, of Monroe.
