"Quack" Bevill died Tuesday, April 2nd, at the Humana Hospital in Winnfield. Services were held Thursday, April 4th, at the First Baptist Church of Winnfield with Dr. Calvin Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield City Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Labeled an "institution of Winnfield" by his pastor in the memorial services, Mr. Bevill, 84, has been a lifelong resident of this city. Affectionately known as "Quack" he was a well known person to adults and children of his community. He was given the nickname Quack as a very young child by a black house servant who was protesting R. D.'s efforts to play doctor with him as a patient. A member of the musical Bevill family, he was not only a performer but a supporter of the musical arts in his church and community. He was noted for his wit, his sense of humor and the ability to say just the right thing in a given situation. An authority on the history of Winn Parish, Mr. Bevill remembered all the families who made up the early history of the Parish and could give detailed genealogies of most of them. He was in the oil business as a drilling contractor most of his life. A veteran of World War I, he was a civic worker and a supporter of patriotic causes. He would have celebrated his fiftieth anniversary of his marriage to Sue Ballance this year. They have had two children, a daughter, Susan, now deceased, and a son, Rardon D. Bevill III who lives in Darien, Conn. Also surviving are two brothers, Jared Bevill of Kilgore, Texas and Joe Bevill of Winnfield; one sister, May Bevill of Winnfield; and three grandchildren.
