Bice On April 22, 1903, God called from this earthly sphere a noble son, a true citizen, a loving husband, and a fond parent. The subject of this sketch was born in the state of Georgia June 11, 1841. He moved with his parents to Alabama in 1849; married in 1860 and soon afterwards became a soldier in the Confederate Army. Like many others he made a brave and gallant soldier, fighting hard to win a cause in which he had so nobly and earnestly engaged. After the war he returned to his family in Alabama and in 1868 moved again to Louisiana in which state he resided until death, most of the time near the scene of his last resting place, at Couley. He joined the Methodist church in 1879 and lived a zealous and consistent member the remainder of his life. His main theme or object in life was to "do unto others as he would have them do unto him". This good man's life was characterized by the noblest acts to his fellow-man and an unswerving devotion to his Creator. His home was one of charity and hospitality, always dividing with the more unfortunate about him. He was sick many days prior to his death, but bore his suffering with great fortitude and patience. A few moments before the death angel bade him home he told his faithful wife and other members of his family that he was better and felt no pain. But God had only soothed the pain and come to dwell with him. Indeed this good man's life is worthy of praises and emmulation. To the bereaved family and his many relative and friends, we would say grieve not, but strive to live as he lived and your reward will be as his, a home in Heaven.
