Bice of Calvin, who has been ill for many months, died at her home Wednesday morning, December 2, 1936, at 7:40 o'clock after pneumonia developed. Mrs. Bice had been under the treatment of physicians and had spent several weeks in an Alexandria clinic. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Couley Methodist Church with the Rev. Alwin Stokes, pastor of the Winnfield Presbyterian Church, and Rev. F. M. Shows, pastor of the Calvin Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Couley Cemetery. The many beautiful floral offerings attested to the esteem in which the deceased was held. Mrs. Bice was 69 years, 3 months, and 9 days of age. She was reared in the Couley Community and was before her marriage on January 17, 1884, to Mr. Bice, Miss Bettie Brett. The family has resided in Calvin for twenty-five years. Mrs. Bice was a member of the Baptist church and the Order of Eastern Star, Palestine Chapter No. 55. Surviving are the husband, John T. Bice; three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Rikard of Couley, Mrs. J. T. McLemore of Wheeling, and Miss Annie Lee Bice of Calvin; three sons, Buford Bice of Kansas City, Mo., Arlin Bice of Parhuska, Oklahoma, and Garland Bice of Calvin; three sisters, Mrs. Linnie C. Everett of Couley, Mrs. Emma Nix of Clarence, and Mrs. Minnie Little of Natchitoches, and two brothers, Ira Brett of Clarence and Sidney Brett of Montgomery.
