Mr. Mack, as he was known to his friends, was employed by the City of Winnfield as a caretaker at the Grove Street Recreation Center for more than 20 years. "He was one of the most dedicated men who ever worked for the city," Winnfield Mayor Jack Henderson said. "He is going to be hard to replace." A native of Junction City, Arkansas, Bishop came to Winnfield in 1904 and worked at various saw mills in the Winnfield area before going to work for the city. "Mr. Mack wanted to work, so we did not force him to quit when he reached retirement age," Mayor Henderson said. "The city is going to miss him." IN addition to duties at the recreation center, Mr. Mack served Winnfield as the town's Santa Claus for 20 years. In a story about Mr. Mack in the June 2, 1976 Enterprise, he said he liked being around children and that it was one of the main reasons he enjoyed playing Santa Claus. The story also pointed out Mr. Mack was the second person in Winn Parish to own an automobile. Funeral services were under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Winnfield. The Revs. E. B. Barton and Robert Gage officiated. Burial was in New Jerusalem Church Cemetery.
