W. and Tennessee Bolton James Wade Bolton, 66, prominent banker and business leader of Alexandria, died Tuesday. He was president of Rapides Bank and Trust Co. in Alexandria, succeeding his father, the late Col. George W. Bolton. Mr. Bolton was born at Winnfield, August 4, 1869, son of George W. and Tennessee Wade Bolton, his father a native of Griffin County, Ark. He was educated in the public schools Pineville and at Baylor University, Waco, Texas, and Soule Commercial College, New Orleans. He took an active part in developing the Rapides Parish public school system, serving on the school board from 1904 until about two years ago, when he resigned from the body. Upon becoming a member of the board in 1904, he became vice president and in 1916 was named president of the body, holding that title until his resignation. Bolton High School, a million dollar school plant, was named for him in tribute to his years of service to education. Entering the Rapides Bank and Trust Co., at the age of 20 as a bookkeeper, he devoted his time and talents to the institution's development. He later became cashier and then president of the bank in 1914. He also had other business interests. He was married to Miss Annie White Feb. 8, 1893, a native of Alexandria, who died March 19, 1895. On Oct, 31, 1896, he married Miss Mary Calderwood, who was born in Monroe, La. She became the mother of five children, three of whom are living. The oldest son, James Calderwood Bolton, is now a vice-president of the Rapides Bank and the youngest son, Robert Harvey Bolton, is assistant cashier. Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth, is now Mrs. (Dr.) Charles L. Brown of New Orleans. The family has long been identified with Baptist church activities in the state. Mr. Bolton was a York Rite Mason and Shriner and was elected master of his lodge at 25. He was also affiliated with the Elks. Mr. Bolton leaves three brothers, Frank P., Roscoe C., and Porter Bolton, of Alexandria, and one sister, Mrs. Harry K. Gravier of Alexandria. Funeral services were held Wednesday at three o'clock.
