Mrs. V. Bowen, Retired Teacher Dies September 6

Mrs. Gertrude Payne Bowen, 52, retired Winn Parish school teacher, died at
4 p.m. Monday, September 6, 1965 in a Winnfield hospital after several years
of ill health.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Southern
Funeral Home with Dr. W. L. Holcomb officiating.  Burial  was in the Winnfield
Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.

She was a native of Winnfield, a member of the First Baptist Church of
Winnfield, and the Eastern Star.  She had served 30 years as a teacher in
the Winn Parish schools with her more recent years of teaching spent at
Eastside Elementary in Winnfield.

Survivors are her husband, Volmer Bowen of Winnfield and her mother, Mrs.
George A. Payne, of Winnfield.

Pallbearers were Chester Derr, Reggie Gates, Frank Shropshire, Robert Howell,
Robert Cherry, E. H. Farr, Don Turner, and R. L. Terry.
