Zion Funeral services for John Box, 69 year old carpenter, were held Monday at Mt. Zion Church. Mr. Box died at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, after an illness of about a year. A nephew of his, Rev. A. N. Baum, of the Mt. Zion Church, officiated at the funeral services, with burial in the Mt. Zion Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home. Mr. Box was born in Brookhaven, Miss., and had lived here for the past 35 years. He was active as a carpenter until the time of his final illness. Survivors are his wife, of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Gordon and Mrs. Jessie Bullitt, both of Winnfield, and Mrs. Lease Long, of Pennsylvania; two sons, Sgt. Winfred Box of Pensacola, Florida and J. C. Box of San Diego, California; four sisters, Mrs. J. R. Gorham, Mrs. Arthur Maxey, and Mrs. Minnie King, all of Winnfield, and Mrs. Mary Martin, Brookhaven, Miss.; two brothers, J. M. Box and E. H. Box, both of Winnfield. Pallbearers were M. M. Box, James Box, Willie Baum, Uldrich Baum, Clarence Maxey, and John Robert Gorham.
