John Rayburn a paroled convict from Leavenworth,Kansas shot and killed officer Boyett during a routine questioning at a boarding house on the corner of N Grove St and Broad St. He was rushed to an Alexandria where he died shortly after arrival at 10:45 Saturday morning. Robert Boyett was only 33 years old. The youngest child of John William and Cynthia James Boyett, Bob was born November 5, 1893 in Winnfield where he lived all his life. Survived by his wife Mae Louise (Lussan ) Boyett, age 37 of New Orleans, La. Two sons James Robert age 4 and Dale William age 2 of Winnfield. Four brothers Jasper,Albert,Wesley,and Horace Boyett all of Winnfield. Four sisters Rhoda Moore of Georgia, Minervia McKaskell of Winnfield, Emma Sanders of Arkansas,Martha Sanders of Winnfield. Services will be at the First Baptist Church in Winnfield. Officer Boyett will be laid to rest in the Winnfield city cemetery. "A man of Bob Boyett's caliber can not be replaced and the community can best honor him by doing those things and perpetuating the principals for which he lived and died, and it is our duty to see that he did not die in vain."
