Mrs. Brand, 68, Dies; Burial Held At Sikes

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Southern Funeral
Home of Winnfield for Mrs. Audie Thornton Brand, 68, of Joyce.

The Rev. Jimmy Yocum officiated.  Burial was in Sikes Cemetery.

Mrs. Brand, a native of Winn Parish and member of the Baptist Church, died
in Start Wednesday, October 13, 1971 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dorothy
Nell Adams, following a brief illness.

Other survivors include her husband, Clay Brand of Joyce; two sons, Donald
Thornton of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Perkins Thornton of New Orleans;
another daughter, Mrs. Jimmye Faye Box of Shreveport; three brothers, Homer
Simmons of Joyce, M. A. Simmons of Birmingham, Ala., and J. V. Simmons of
Dallas, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. John Brister, Mrs. Aaron Creel, both of
Joyce, Mrs. E. E. Prince of Shreveport, and Mrs. O. B. Martin of Robstown,
Tex.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.
